September 24, 2024

Discover a Unique Cultural Encounter: 140 Artisans, Traditional Knowledge, and the Beauty of Mexico in Every Creation

From September 19th to 22nd, we had the opportunity to intensely enjoy a new project by Xcaret: The First Xcaret Fair of Mexican Folk Art, which has been a resounding success. This Fair brought together the best of Folk Art from our country, gathering 140 artisans from more than 20 states of the Republic.

It has been a privilege and a joy for the senses to admire the most outstanding Masters of Folk Art in very diverse specialties, such as crafts in wood, ceramics, textiles, metals, jewelry, cardboard, basketry, Mexican toys, glass, leather, amate paper, and several other materials.

The Fair has allowed for an extraordinary transmission of knowledge, both from the artisans to the visitors and among the Masters of Folk Art themselves. This has been facilitated by the workshops offered by the artisans, where they shared their expertise on techniques, materials, and the processes involved in crafting their artworks. Additionally, the four conferences provided insights into the importance of implementing safeguarding measures for this cultural heritage, encompassing both tangible (the pieces) and intangible (the processes and knowledge) aspects.

It was incredibly exciting to admire the creations of the artisans who adorned the runways with traditional costumes from their places of origin, featuring both traditional designs and their own innovations. This brought a fresh perspective to the use of their wonderful textiles.

The event has also allowed visitors to acquire extraordinary pieces of folk art and has facilitated the commercialization of handicrafts through a direct relationship between numerous buyers and the artisans.

Answer The Xcaret Folk Art Fair has become a benchmark at the national and international level due to its magnificent organization, the extraordinary level of the pieces presented, and the stimulus to creation and innovation received by the artisans through the competition by categories that offered significant prizes to more than 20 artisans.

This fair has been a "dream" that became a reality thanks to the efforts of numerous individuals and volunteers who dedicated their hearts and work to promoting and fostering love for the culture of our country. What better conclusion than to share the words of Architect Miguel Quintana: This fair "invites us to continue nourishing our eyes, hearts, and souls with the beauty of Mexico."
