Whether for singing or dancing, norteño music is always enjoyable!
Currently, music is something that is part of our daily lives, many of us listen to it for hours, enjoying among the more than 60 million songs that exist. So much so, that if we take into account each and every one of the specific musical varieties, we could talk about more than 2,500 musical genres.
Did you know that Mexico has its own musical genres?
-Mariachi: which is the genre with the traditional sound in Mexico.
-Corridos: Stories of the people, sung for the people.
-Ranchera: Genre considered among Mexico's favorites.
-Banda Sinaloense: Also known as "Tambora Sinaloense" characterized by trumpet, tambora, tarola, clarinet and trombone sounds.
-Norteña: Norteño conjunto music, formed by the accordion and a chordal chordophone, was developed in the first half of the 20th century in Tamaulipas, Nuevo León and southern Texas, adapting Mexican and local songs and instrumental pieces from the north of the country, as well as European pieces.
In this article we are going to focus on the norteñas, their sound is unmistakable, their unique clothing and their characteristic lyrics. It is sung, it is danced, but it is also felt and lived. Currently, norteño music has a place of origin, which its name defines, but which can be heard in any corner of Mexico... and even in Xoximilco Cancun.

1.- Los Tigres del Norte - La puerta negra.
This classic by Los Tigres del Norte, tells the story of a couple that is forced to separate due to the dislike of the girl's parents. The lyrics explain that the young people want to be together, but can't because of the influence of people outside their romance.
2.- Calibre 50 - A La Antigüita.
“A la antigüita”, narrates the process of what it is like to make a woman fall in love with small, simple and sweet details. A romantic and sticky song to dedicate.
3.- Bobby Pulido – Desvelado.
¡Voooooy desvelado! 🎶 That chorus is iconic.
This hit of Bobby Pulido spoke of someone who is in love with an unattainable person. It was said that the singer wrote this song for Selena, the queen of Tex-Mex. But in reality he did not compose "Desvelado" and he was not referring to the singer either, he confessed that the song did remind him of her, since he released it six months after she passes away.
4.- La boda del Huitlacoche - Carín León.
Great for dancing and singing.
It is known that "La Boda del Huitlacoche" was written in the late 1950s by Carlos Madrigal, 24 years later it was performed by Los Broncos de Reynosa and in 2020 Carin León transformed it into regional music to give it a very danceable touch that went viral in TikTok, the song narrates a party, to be more precise a wedding attended by many birds, where the Huitlacoche or Cuitlacoche will marry a magpie.
5.- Cardenales de Nuevo León - Belleza de Cantina.
One of the songs that is most listened to in Mexico when the party is at its highest point is "Belleza de Cantina" by the Cardenales de Nuevo León, it is a melody that whether you are hurt or not, everyone sings with a lot of feeling. The song talks about a lack of love that a man dedicates to a woman or at least it seems that way, because in reality many do not know that it is a composition by a woman.
