From December 11th, 2025 to February 12th, 2026, Hotel Xcaret Arte hosts Tonantzin Guadalupe, an exhibition of 60 representations of the Virgin of Guadalupe created by artisans and artists from different corners of Mexico, all brought together in one place.
To the sound of the all-female mariachi ensemble Las Adelitas de Xcaret, and right at 7 p.m., the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the beginning of the Tonantzin Guadalupe exhibition. Guests were welcomed with drinks and hors d’oeuvres that accompanied the evening.

The exhibition Tonantzin Guadalupe brings together 60 pieces made from a wide array of materials by artisans and artists from across Mexico. Its purpose is to show how a single image can take on multiple shapes and meanings; hence its title: 60 visions from Mexican folk art.
The name Tonantzin Guadalupe seeks to bring together the pre-Hispanic vision and the contemporary perspective of the Guadalupan celebration. Tonantzin comes from Náhuatl and can be understood as “our revered mother”, while Guadalupe belongs to the period after the Spanish conquest. The encounter of both names creates a powerful blend of cultures and traditions.

What sets this exhibition apart is that it features a private collection of Guadalupan images assembled over 25 years. The richness of its pieces, with styles and materials that reflect each region of the country, turns this show into a broad mosaic centered on the Virgin of Guadalupe.

The aim of this exhibition is to share with visitors the many ways in which an entire country understands and portrays one of the most meaningful religious images for most people in Mexico.
The central piece of the exhibition, Our Lady of Artisan Hands, embodies this idea: a Virgin of Guadalupe more than two meters tall, created by ten master artisans. Each of them worked separately, guided only by plans and measurements, without knowing what the final piece would look like.

From the rays made in Michoacán and the angel crafted in Guerrero to the hands that painted the pink dress using a technique from Chiapas, this representation of the Virgin captures the spirit of the exhibition: to shape a visual identity of Mexico’s cultural and artistic heritage around the Guadalupan celebration and share it with the public.
The exhibition showcases a wide range of artistic techniques: stone, embroidery, metalwork, clay, wood, talavera ceramics and many more. Tonantzin Guadalupe thus displays a rich selection of materials used to create these 60 images of the Virgin.

The exhibition also offers a contemporary outlook, demonstrating how every available resource can be used to promote folk art. Thanks to technological tools, an augmented-reality space was designed where, through a cellphone screen, new pieces appear that evoke the apparition of the Virgin to Juan Diego on Tepeyac Hill.

This is the final exhibition of 2025 at Hotel Xcaret Arte, and you can visit it from December 11th, 2025 to February 12th, 2026. The show is distributed across three main spaces:
