Discovering the Oasis Maya
Experiencias Xcaret Launches the New Xenotes Oasis Maya Tour
On July 1st and with an investment of over 35 million pesos, Experiencias Xcaret will start operations of a new cenotes tour concept under the name Xenotes to visit four different types of cenotes (sinkholes) in one day and offer a unique experience for tourists looking for close contact with the nature and the mysticism that these spaces represent.
When announcing this new tourism product, the Commercial Director of Experiencias Xcaret, Lizeth Álvarez Gorosave announced that the tour Xenotes will take place in different natural spaces located on the line of the so-called “Route of the Cenotes”, 22 miles from Cancun, in the town of Puerto Morelos.
“Nature at its best, extreme adventures, respect for the sacred ground of the ancient Mayans and of the legendary guardians of the jungle, called Aluxes, who should be asked permission before entering their domains, that’s how you experience a day of fun at Xenotes Oasis Maya”, stated Álvarez Gorosave.
The name of each of the cenotes is associated with the four elements of nature and their Mayan origins: K’áak or Fire Xenote, Ha’ or Water Xenote, Iik’ or Wind Xenote, and Lu’um or Earth Xenote. “We are offering a new tour concept, which caters to tourists seeking experiences in small groups and history, culture and nature lovers but also enjoy adventure activities”, said Lizeth Álvarez, as she added that during this tour, visitors can enjoy activities such as rappelling, zip-lining, snorkeling, and kayaking in amazing natural spaces.
“Beyond extreme sports or nature picnics, the Xenotes tour offers exclusive moments of interaction and personalized attention to groups of 19 adventurers, who, guided by experts on this untouched territory are instructed on activities, history, anecdotes and legends of the area” she commented.
Lizeth Álvarez went on to tell the media present that with this new tour we are creating 55 direct jobs and 220 indirect jobs. “We are serving a demanding market niche, with excellent transportation services, specialized guides, snorkeling equipment, life jackets, towels, eating and resting areas, restrooms and dressing rooms.”
She also informed that the tour includes coffee service, welcome chocolate and a sweet bread, soft drinks (water and soda) and seasonal fruits during the tour, chocolate, coffee and oatmeal cookies at each Xenote as well as a Glam picnic: minestrone soup, artisan bread, deli meats, fine cheeses, water, soda, beer and wine.
This new concept is the best option to enjoy the wonderful world of the cenotes, without which the geography of the Yucatan Peninsula could not be understood. At one time the cenotes represented the main water supply for the ancient rulers of these lands; in fact, the word “cenote” comes from the Mayan word “dzonot” meaning cave with water.
As it happens in Xcaret, Xel-Há and Xplor parks, Xenotes will develop the best practices for the care of natural resources in each attraction, as well as the management of the waste that originates from tourism. “We are making the most of our expertise and best practices to make these spaces a model of sustainable tourism” she commented.
