You are also passionate about discovering cultural traditions. In that case, this blog is perfect for you. Discover the traditional Mexican festivities celebrated at Xcaret and plan your trip to immerse yourself in our culture's folklore and rich traditions.

National Holidays

We begin this trip celebrating Mexico's Independence Day with the Fiesta Mexicana Xcaret. This festivity takes place on the night of September 15, and 32 Grandes Cocineras from different regions are involved. This celebration occurs at the iconic Xpiral pyramid, between the properties of Hotel Xcaret Mexico and Hotel Xcaret Arte. Besides enjoying delicious dishes typical of Mexican cuisine at this party, you can immerse yourself in a festive and colorful atmosphere, characteristic of a Mexican celebration. The ambiance includes diverse musical genres such as mariachi, jarochos, and huapango, among others, as well as kermesse-style game stations.

I also recommend you to visit Xoximilco, where before the experience of a tour aboard a trajinera through water canals, you will also enjoy Mexican snacks mariachi, you can even marry your love in the kermesse wedding stand, aboard the trajinera, your palate will be delighted with a special menu for the patriotic month, and you can also join the shout of ¡Viva México! I promise it will be an incredible night you want to repeat every year.

Day of the Dead traditions.

We continue with one of the most awaited celebrations of the year in Xcaret, the Festival of Life and Death Traditions, which celebrates the Day of the Dead; this festival is at Xcaret Park from October 30 to November 3, and, this year, will celebrate its 18th edition. Each year, Mexico invites a state to share its traditions, and this time, Quintana Roo will participate. Visitors can immerse themselves in Mexican traditions, such as monumental altars, traditional cuisine, artistic presentations, exhibitions, and more.

Christmas Holidays.

To close the year with a perfect finale, the long-awaited Christmas festivities arrive, beginning with the posadas, traditionally celebrated from December 16 to the 24th. The posadas recreate the journey of the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph in search of a place for the birth of Baby Jesus. Participants divide into two groups: those who ask for an inn and those who answer. The posada requests are made through traditional songs, involving everyone in the event, culminating with colorful piñatas full of surprises.

To enjoy this tradition, visit Xcaret Park from December 16 to 24th. If you are a guest of our Hotels, you can't miss the Gran Posada, which takes place in the famous Xpiral on December 16. Here, you can enjoy a night of Christmas carols that will begin an evening full of surprises, gastronomy, mixology, games, music, and piñatas.

To celebrate Christmas in Xcaret, they fill the hotels with lights, poinsettias, traditional nativity scenes, and Christmas trees to make you feel at home and enjoy a unique dinner. Each restaurant offers a special menu with traditional dishes that change every year, and your concierge will inform you of these in advance.

Start the New Year with gratitude for the old year and celebrate new beginnings at the New Year's Party. Each hotel organizes a special event at its facilities.

In the Xpiral Chapel, they hold a religious ceremony of gratitude. Also, each restaurant has a special menu for the occasion. The night culminates with a concert, where, surrounded by a magical environment, the exciting countdown announces the moment before the emotional "Happy New Year" shout, filling us with nostalgia and opening the door to a new cycle of opportunities.

Xoximilco also joins this exciting celebration to welcome the New Year uniquely. Here, you can enjoy a magical night aboard colorful trajineras, savor a special menu, enjoy live music, show off your best dance moves, participate in the games organized by the compadre on board, and, of course, the traditional 12 grapes and a toast to new beginnings. An incredible atmosphere that will make your experience unforgettable.

Three Kings' Day

Because December was not enough, we started the year by celebrating Three Kings Day on January 6, one of the most beloved traditions in Mexico. This holiday commemorates the arrival of the Three Wise Men to the Bethlehem portal to worship the baby Jesus, bringing gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The celebration is full of symbolism and joy, and my favorite part is the traditional Rosca de Reyes, a ring-shaped sweet bread decorated with crystallized fruits. Inside the donut are hidden tiny plastic dolls representing the baby Jesus. The person who finds a doll in their portion is responsible for organizing a party on February 2, Candlemas Day, and serving tamales.

From December 25 to January 6, you can meet Melchor, Gaspar, and Baltazar, the Three Wise Men, performing a parade in the Plus area, where the Voladores de Papantla is located. If you visit Xcaret on January 5th or 6th, you can also cut the Rosca de Reyes with us.

At Hotel Xcaret Mexico, we also celebrate Three Kings Day by breaking the Rosca de Reyes in the Mercado de la Merced, walking with the Three Wise Men, accompanied by mariachis, and handing out candy in the lobby.

In conclusion, traditional Mexican celebrations are not just events; they represent a fascinating journey into Mexico's cultural roots and vibrant identity. From the Fiesta Mexicana at Xcaret to the mystical Festival of Life and Death Traditions, each celebration invites you to immerse yourself in a world of flavors, music, and deeply rooted traditions.

Experiencing Independence Day, honoring loved ones on the Day of the Dead, sharing the joy of the posadas, and welcoming the New Year at Xcaret means connecting with the very essence of Mexico. These moments enrich the soul, revealing a country that celebrates its history with its heart and proudly shares it with the world.
