The ocean is asking for help

Will you help it?

Year after year, humans contaminate the ocean with 8 tons of plastic. A lot of trash that affects flora and fauna directly, destroying its environment and interrupting its life. According to ONU, at least one million birds and a hundred thousand mammals and sea turtles die every year because of waste. We need to help sea turtles and the ocean.

The ocean, not only sea turtles, is screaming for help and we are going to tell you how to help it from your home.

1.- Do a research

To make a change, you need to know the problem. Make an analysis of environmental issues and keep yourself informed about news and actions that others are doing for our planet. Nowadays is easy to find information about everything thanks to social media and Google. Dive in and prepare yourself to help the world. If you are informed about what’s happening, it will be easier for you to do something for our world.

There’s a campaign named #Tortugaton, you can help sea turtles from your home using this hashtag in your social media.

2.- Share information on social media

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and every social network are a useful tool when you need to share relevant information. Day by day a lot of press and people like Flora Fauna & Culture of Mexico share important news about the earth. Follow them and share what you believe is important.

What you share on your Facebook may reach the right person and push him to start changing the planet and help sea turtles. And there it is, one by one we will be a lot of individuals taking actions to help our the world.

3.- Involve your family and friends

Some of them will be more interested than others

Once you are informed, talk about it with your family and friends. Some of them will be more interested than others, so give them more information and together start doing something different.

Bit by bit your circle of friends and family will be informed, and they will share info with more persons. And soon we will be a lot building a better future for us and our planet.

You can start by asking them to use the hashtag #Tortugaton and help sea turtles.

4.- Reduce your waste

There are a lot of recycling campaigns that try to make us aware of the problem that waste is for our environment. It’s difficult to make a habit of it, but once started, you’ll never stop. We’ve grown with the idea of an eternal world, but now we know that’s not the truth. So we need to take care of it and recycling is a great way of doing it.

Separate your waste in organic and inorganic and reuse water bottles and plastic bags. There’s always a new way to reuse a lot of stuff.  If you join us, soon we’ll be more involved, and it will be easier to recycle the tons of waste that we generate day by day.

5.- Stop using straws!

Every straw you use disintegrates in 100 years and its useful time is just about 2 hours. The environmental impact of them is terrible. The World Economic Forum anticipates that in 2050 there will be more plastic on the ocean than marine animals. That is catastrophic.

Stop using straws. They are not necessary for anything unless you have a mobility problem.

You should also eliminate the use of styrofoam. The pollution it generates affects the oceans and the ozone layer directly. Besides, its disintegration time is, at least, of 100 years.

You need to use neither styrofoam nor straws. Stop using them.

6.- Be a volunteer

Depending on your career, you can find NGOs that help the ocean. Use your free time to help those organizations; they usually need a lot of volunteer help.

7.- Make a donation

Without money, we can’t do a lot. If you have a little extra money, donate it or make a transfer to an NGO. Your donation will be used by the people that work everyday taking care of the world.

Use the hashtag #Tortugaton in your social media, for each you post, Xcaret and Xel-Há will donate a $1 MXN to help marine sea turtles.

Sea turtles need you. Take actions and start changing the world’s future. It is not late yet. Not yet.
