We’ll get you some answers!
Before visiting the Xenotes Tour, our community has asked us several questions so that they can prepare their visit and be ready for the adventure in the Maya jungle, so we compiled the 15 most frequent questions about Xenotes Tour and answered them for you to prepare.
If you already plan to visit us, consider this list of questions about Xenotes Tour as a definitive guide to be completely ready for what your day has in store for you.
1.- Where does the Xenotes tour take place?
In the municipality of Puerto Morelos, in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. There is a road known as the “Ruta de los Cenotes” (cenotes route), in which there are many cenotes for you to visit. Our cenotes are distributed along this route, so we will move between them in a van.
2.- Which cenotes will I visit?
We will visit four types of cenotes: open, semi-open, old, and young. The cenotes that you will visit are Lu’um, Ha ‘, K’aák, Há, and Iik. Only the Xenotes Tour offers the visit to these cenotes, meaning there is no access to visitors who would like to get there on their own, you’ll have the place for you and other Xenotes tour visitors.
3.- Does the tour include food and drinks?
Yes. After visiting the first cenote, you’ll have a coffee break with oatmeal cookies, sweet bread (delicious), apples, coffee, champurrado, and jamaica water. Before visiting the last cenote, you’ll have the main meal, which is an assisted baguettes buffet. You can prepare it as you want and you can repeat it as many times as you want. I recommend saving a little space for a brownie, they are delicious.
Drinks during mealtime can be water, soda, beer, red or white wine.
4.- Will the transport pick me up at my hotel?
The tour includes pick-up and drop-off at your hotel. At the time of booking, verify that the place where you are staying is on our list of hotels available for pick-up. In case you don’t find it, you can call our Contact Center to confirm the information and, in case it’s not on our list, our agent will help you locate the closest pick-up point.
5.- What activities does the Xenotes tour include? Are there any with an extra cost?
All activities are included, therefore, they do not have any extra cost. You will only need money if you want to buy the photo package (which I highly recommend), a shirt so you don’t get sunburned, water shoes or a souvenir. Otherwise, you will not need more money during the tour.
6.- How to book the Xenotes tour?
You can do it by different means:
– With our agents: You can visit one of the kiosks that are in Cancun and Playa del Carmen. They are found in shopping malls and tourist corridors.
– Telephone: Call our Contact Center and one of our agents will give you all the information you need.
– Online: Visit our website and book your visit.
I recommend planning your visit to take advantage of the advance purchase discount. Remember that we have special discounts for Mexicans and Quintana Roo residents.
7.- Are there promotions for the Xenotes tour?
Yes, we have a discount for Mexicans, Quintana Roo residents, and for advance purchase. You can see them on our website or by calling our Contact Center.
8.- How old are children recommend to be?
Children from 6 years old can enjoy all the activities of the Xenotes Tour. Younger ones will not be able to do them for safety reasons.
9.- If I don’t know how to swim, can I go? Is it safe for me?
Yes! The Xenotes tour is prepared so that you can enjoy it even if you don’t know how to swim. We have life jackets (their use is mandatory), lifeguards in each cenote who are on the lookout for all visitors, and our guides, who are prepared for any situation that merits their attention.
On the other hand, if you do not know how to swim and you are also afraid of the water, I recommend that you mentalize very well that you will be safe and that there are people trained and ready to support you if necessary. But you must know that you will be in constant contact with the water and the cenotes are deep, so you will not step on the bottom. Despite this, you may not be able to calm down and enjoy the tour.
10.- Are there animals in the cenotes?
In most of the cenotes, the flora and fauna are not abundant because, due to its geographical position, not much sunlight enters, which prevents the photosynthesis of the plants that would become food for fish.
However, some fish manage to live in the water of the cenotes but don’t worry, they are small and shy that, in general, are friendly and stay away from humans.
11.- What kind of clothes do I need to bring?
I recommend you bring two changes of clothes:
1.- Swimming clothes: You cannot forget your swimsuit. If you want, you can bring water shoes and a shirt to prevent sunburns.
2.- Dry clothes: After visiting all the cenotes, surely you will want to stay dry, therefore, bring fresh and comfortable clothes, in addition to your sandals or tennis shoes.
You will not need to bring a towel, one will be provided to you. In addition, I recommend you bring a light sweater, in case the air conditioning on the way back is too cold for you.
12.- If I want to bring my camera or cell phone to take photos and videos, can I?
Yes, you can! Just keep in mind that, when doing physical activities such as swimming, jumping, kayaking, zip-lines, and more, your device is likely to fall and, as you surely know, the cenotes are very deep, which makes it very difficult to recover.
I recommend having a band to secure your devices to your hand and prevent it from getting lost. Do not forget that they must be water-resistant or have a cover that protects them from moisture.
If you take photos and videos, don’t forget to upload them to your social media using #TourXenotes or #Xenotes so that they can be published on the official Xenotes channels.
13.- I stayed at the Xcaret hotels, do I need to book the tour?
Yes, as it is a tour with limited capacity, you must make a reservation to be able to ensure your place. I recommend that as soon as you check-in at one of the Xcaret hotels, you ask for the availability of the tour and book it as soon as possible.
14.- Are you applying security protocols due to the pandemic?
Yes. Grupo Xcaret created the 360° Xafety protocol, which is concerned with maintaining the necessary security measures so that our coworkers and visitors can be at ease. We invite you to learn more about 360° Xafety here.
15.- What if I don’t want to do adventure activities but I want to visit the cenotes?
If you do not want to do any of the activities, you can just enjoy and swim in the four cenotes that you will visit on the tour. However, adventure activities are a fundamental part of this tour. I recommend you overcome your fear and venture to enjoy the zip-lines, the slide, the jumps, and more.
These activities are planned to be fun without neglecting, at any time, your safety. You can rest assured that you are going to be fine and that there are people taking care of you.
