If you're a movie fan, you've undoubtedly heard of the Premios Platino; if not, here's some context.
The Premios Platino are an annual recognition that celebrates the best of Ibero-American cinema, uniting Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries in an event that highlights cultural diversity and cinematographic excellence.
These awards emerged in 2014 as a joint initiative between the Audiovisual Producers' Rights Management Entity (EGEDA) and the Ibero-American Federation of Film and Audiovisual Producers (FIPCA), with the aim of promoting and disseminating cinema produced in Ibero-America, as well as recognizing the talent of directors, actors, and film industry professionals in the region.
Ibero-American cinema is a term that encompasses film productions from Latin America, Spain, Portugal and, occasionally, some productions made in the United States by Latin American or Spanish filmmakers.
This cinema is characterized by its cultural richness, thematic diversity, and ability to approach universal stories with a unique, local perspective. Over the years, Ibero-American cinema has gained international recognition for its originality, artistic quality, and ability to connect with audiences around the world.
The Premios Platino have become an important showcase for this cinema, providing a platform for Ibero-American films, directors and actors to gain worldwide visibility and recognition.
In addition to rewarding excellence in different categories such as Best Film, Best Direction, Best Actor and Actress, among others, the Premios Platino also include special recognitions for Lifetime Achievement and Film and Education in Values, highlighting the social and cultural commitment of the film industry in the region.
Xcaret an the Premios Platino.
Over the years, Xcaret has played a prominent role in the history of the Premios Platino, hosting the event and participating in the promotion of Ibero-American cinema.
Xcaret has hosted several editions of the Premios Platino, providing a stunning and unique setting for the awards ceremony. Xcaret's natural beauty and rich history provide an incomparable backdrop for this event that celebrates the creativity and talent of Ibero-American cinema. The choice of Xcaret as the venue reflects the Premios Platino commitment to promoting the region's cultural and natural heritage, as well as its desire to highlight the connection between film and the environment that inspires it.
After three years of being held in Madrid, the Premios Platino return to Xcaret.
The Ibero-American audiovisual awards return to Riviera Maya, which hosted the awards in 2018 and 2019, in its 11th Edition, to celebrate the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking industry, and will alternate venues between 2024 and 2027, moving annually from Quintana Roo to Madrid in a historic agreement for the awards.
Thus, the awards inaugurate their second decade of life returning to the Caribbean coast, one of the most important tourist areas in the world, counting again with the invaluable support of one of its closest allies: the Xcaret group.
This year the awards will celebrate the awards gala of its XI edition at the Gran Tlachco Theater.
