1.- Valladolid  

Located in Yucatán, southern Mexico with 30,000 inhabitants and just over 475 years of history, this picturesque place awaits us. From a tour of the historic center through its cobbled streets you will find shops and music wherever you turn. Like many of the towns in Mexico, you will find a park with food stalls. You will find esquites (corn in a cup) and delicious marquesitas (a crepe in the shape of a crispy roll). Hotels in the historic center will remind you of the iconic Coyot Inn and Rapid Inn in the town of Xenses. This is because they are old houses adapted to be hotels and with very creative ideas inside.  

How to get there?  

From Cancun it is a journey of approximately an hour and a half through a highway. Various transportation lines arrive there.

2.- San Miguel de Allende  

Located in the state of Guanajuato, with 68,000 inhabitants, this place has a gigantic amount of culture in every corner. Founded almost at the same time as the first town we mentioned, it has places that you must visit. The Parish of San Miguel Arcángel with its Gothic architecture will make you go back in time. You’ll also be able to try Mexican dishes like casseroles. You can try these in a restaurant in the historic center. Delicious! Surely some houses you saw in the town of Xenses will remind you of the ones found here. 

How to get there 

It’s 4 hours from Mexico City and only one hour from Querétaro or Guanajuato. Whether on a transport line or in your own car, follow the signs that will guide you here.

3.- Izamal 

Its name in Mayan means “dew from the sky”, it has a population of 16,000 inhabitants and with many things to offer. Here you can find the typical and delicious Yucatecan snacks. A stop you must make is the Franciscan convent built in 1549. You will also find small chapels like the one you saw in Xenses. Very beautiful from any perspective. 

How to get there? 

It’’ approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes from Cancun or 45 minutes from Merida through the highway. Many transport lines reach Izamal.

4.- Real de Catorce 

Reaching this town is quite an adventure. Do you remember the entrance to the town of Xenses? Well, this entrance here is similar, but with 2,300 meters in length. There is only one way to access it and this implies entering a tunnel called Ogarrio. Do not worry, if you want to go it is not very difficult to get there. It is worth mentioning that if you go during the winter and you are lucky, you may find snow. 

How to get there? 

You can get there by transport from the city of San Luis Potosí, and then go to Matehuala. There they will take you directly to Real de Catorce. The path is amazing and worth the adventure.

5.- Tapijulapa 

A town near the border with Chiapas. Much of the Sierra is seen there, causing the terrain to be rugged and you can see descents (or climbs) like those of the town of Xenses. The temple of Santiago Apóstol has many similarities with The Breather. You can see this from the top of a hill. 

How to get there? 

It is located 84 km from the city of Villahermosa. Various transportation lines reach Tapijulapa.

6.- San Cristóbal de las Casas 

With 158,000 inhabitants, it is one of the most visited towns in Mexico and it is no wonder why. Chiapas is a state with many hidden adventures among nature. You will remember the Eden of Xenses within its narrow highways surrounded by pine trees and forests that will make you feel in a true paradise. From the trip to this town the wonders begin, and it is completed with a big cherry on top: San Cristóbal de las Casas. Every corner is worth visiting. 

How to get there? 

You can get to Tuxtla Gutiérrez and from there a transport to San Cristóbal. A highway will take you up to town. You will be able to see landscapes that will make you fall in love. Another option is from Villahermosa, passing through Palenque and the Agua Azul Waterfalls. This road will become an adventure full of landscapes and mountains that will take your breath away.

7.- Taxco 

A town that has marked an important history in Mexico. With 52,000 inhabitants, great moments have been written, for example, the signature that ended the independence movement. It is worth mentioning that its name comes from the word Tlachco. That’s right, like the place where the Xcaret México Espectacular presentation takes place. In addition, it is one of the towns in Mexico that Xenses was most inspired by. You will be able to see the ceilings that are distinguished by that red roof and taste a delicious guerrereese pozole. 

How to get there? 

If it is by car from Mexico City you can take the road to Acapulco. Keep going until you find the detour to Taxco. You can also take a transport that takes 2 and a half hours to arrive approximately.
